In India festivals are celebrated according to the Hindu Mythology calendar. So it is celebrated on the full moon day of Phalgun month. This festival is considered to welcome the spring season. It is called two days festival first day is Holika Dahan and second day called Dhulendi. People of all religions believe in this festival and celebrate together with pomp and colour to forget their grievances and meet each other.

Story behind the Holi festival:

There was a king named Hiranyakshyap, who considered himself to be the most powerful, so he hated the gods and did not even like to hear the name of Lord Vishnu of the gods, but his son Prahlad was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu did not like this at all. He used to scare his son in many ways and stop him from worshiping Lord Vishnu, but Prahlad did not listen to him, he was engrossed in the devotion of his God. Disturbed by this, one day Hiranyakashyap made a plan.

According to which he asked his sister Holika (Holika was blessed that she has victory over fire, fire cannot burn her) to sit on the altar of fire with Prahlad. Prahlad sat on the altar with his aunt and got engrossed in the devotion of his Lord. Then suddenly the bonfire started burning and there was a voice. According to which Holika was reminded that if she misuses her boon, then she herself will burn to ashes and this happened. Prahlad’s fire could not harm anything and Holika was burnt to ashes. Similarly, the people celebrated that day with great enthusiasm and till date that day is celebrated as Holika Dahan and the next day they celebrate this day with colours.

Type of Holi celebrate in India:

In India it is celebrated many ways, one of the most famous way are called Lath Mar Holi. There is such a practice in Braj, in which men put colour on women and women beat them with sticks, this is a very famous practice, which people go to North India to see.

Flower Holi is also celebrated at many places and everyone meets each other and celebrates happiness along with playing songs. In Maharashtra people celebrated the festival in different style they go each other house in group formation with colours and Gulal and apply colour each other and say “Dont mind its Holi”. In Indore city central India, the whole city of Indore comes out together and dances and sings to enjoy the festival, which called “Gair” of Rang Panchami. This preparations are made 15 days prior to start the festival.

In this festival also called Falgun Festival, In which old song sung in Braj language. Bhang ka paan is also a special part of this festival and many special dishes are prepared in homes which have full of taste.

Should remembers few thing in Holi:
  1. To say Holi is a festival of colours but due to adulteration of colours, many losses are probable to happen, So it is right to us to celebrate Holi with Gulal.
  2. We should avoid having Bhang due to finding intoxicants in cannabis.
  3. Eye disease also increased due to colors mixed with chemicals, so we should avoid it.
  4. The increase in adulteration in festivals also should avoid having food outside the home.
  5. If someone doesn’t want then don’t force them to put colour on them. because fights and quarrels have also started increasing at festivals.
